Emergency Department Nurses Receive Certification


St. Catherine Hospital is pleased to announce that Becky Thomezek, RN and Pam Washburn, RN have successfully completed their certification as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners for adults and adolescents (SANE-A) through the International Association of Forensic Nurses.   A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner is a registered nurse that is specially trained to provide comprehensive care to sexual assault victims, including the forensic exam and expertise for courtroom testimony.

 

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner/Sexual Assault Response Team (SANE/SART) program began in 2002.  There is a specific room at St. Catherine Hospital used to provide a safe, non-clinical environment for victims of sexual assault.  Thomezek and Washburn join Kate Gerber, RN, Lurita Patrick, RN and Ashley Rich, RN in this certification, bringing to five SANE/SART nurses in the St. Catherine Hospital Emergency Department.rtification, bringing to e a safe, nonclinical environment for victims of sexual assault.  Kate Gerber, RN, Lurita Pat
