The Head Start program at Kansas Children’s Service League in Garden City has been selected to participate in the Health Care Institute, a program designed to increase parent’s knowledge and confidence when it comes to treating their children’s minor illnesses and injuries. This will hopefully reduce the number of missed days from school and work as well as unnecessary use of emergency rooms and clinics. Training was held on October 19th, 2006 to provide basic information to parents on caring for their child’s health such as how to use a thermometer and treating flu symptoms.
St. Catherine Hospital was proud to be able to assist Head Start in this educational endeavor by providing the program with 100 Red Cross approved first aid kits and 100 digital thermometers for the training. Scott Taylor, President & CEO of St. Catherine Hospital said, “we are very pleased to be able to assist Kansas Children’s Service League with this worthwhile project by providing the first aid kits and thermometers. It provides us as the regional health care center in southwest Kansas the opportunity to further our mission of building healthier communities.”
