Critical Care Air Transport

Critical Care Air Transport

Air Medical Transport

St. Catherine Hospital provides air medical transport in partnership with EagleMed, LLC of Wichita. The regional CAMTS accredited air medical service has two bases in Garden City to serve the residents of Western Kansas.

Rotor-Wing (Helicopter)

EagleMed 19

A critical care helicopter, a Eurocopter A-star AS350 B2 with a 138 MPH cruising speed, was positioned here at St. Catherine Hospital on November 15, 2011 in order to bring critically ill patients to the facility via air transport to receive the critical care they need by our diverse selection of medical specialists. The helicopter will transport patients to Garden City from distances up to 90 nautical miles. The helicopter is also used for scene flights when patients are involved in accidents and require a fast transport to the hospital. The helicopter crew uses night vision goggles to assist with vision when flying in areas with virtually no light. It’s an added safety feature that allows for safer operations while flying at night.

The addition of the helicopter brings advanced life-saving critical care air medical service to Western Kansas, Eastern Colorado and the Oklahoma Panhandle.

The aircraft is deployed from St. Catherine Hospital by the EagleMed communications center located in Wichita when a referring provider calls 800.525.5220

Fixed-Wing (Airplane)

EagleMed 3

Fixed-wing operations are located at Garden City Regional Airport and were established on June 1, 1997. The Airplane is a Beechcraft King Air C90 which can reach speeds of 265 MPH, has a range of up to 900 miles and is specifically configured for transporting critically ill patients over long distances. The medical crew configuration is one nurse and one paramedic with specialty care training and experience. The pilots also have many hours of flight time and rated to fly in instrument flight conditions. The airplane may sometimes be used when the weather is too bad for the helicopter to fly. An added benefit of the airplane is that one family member may be able to fly with the patient but due to safety considerations this has to be approved by the pilot and crew members.
